Lake Meadows Masters Golf

Slightly too cold today to take the boys out to the Lock for our first canoeing session of the year, so instead we headed over to Lake Meadows so that I could take them for their first ever round of golf on a pitch and putt. It was a beautiful sunny day and I have been saying that the boys are both ready for a pitch and putt for some time now. When we go down the driving range Brandon is usually the more consistent player who takes his time over the shots. Out on the course he seemed to lack the confidence and kept forgetting his line, his feet and head position and was hacking the ball uo the fairway (much like his Dad on a main course).

However Joshua seemed to really excel on the pitch and putt course and was hitting the ball much better than on the range. His wood was tonking the balls very well and on a couple of holes I would say his tee shot was better than mine. His ability to keep count of his shots needs a little to be desired as he is a right little cheat bag. Also he could really do with slowing everything down and treating his golf more leisurely. He charges around the course and races from to shot often getting out of breath. I just couldn't get him to slow up today. Joshua is a real power house with his shots and like me he tries to kill the ball with every shot. This is great for his drives, but his putting is terrible as he hits the ball way too hard.

Overall we didn't count scores but as you would expect I won, Joshua was second and Brandon was third. It will be very interesting to see how long it stays like this as I think Joshua could have the ability to beat me one day if he can learn to slow his game down. The only negative today was that the boys learnt the hard way about some of the safety rules on the course. Me and Tina were at times screaming at Brandon to stand behind the ball when someone is about to take a shot. Then we are screaming at Joshua to slow down and not rush to take his shot when someone is in the way. So of course you can guess what happens, Joshua tonks his driver and smacks his brothers arm side on from about 20ft away. My were there tears shed from little B.

Brandon follows through on a shot and typically moves his feet instead of planting them.

Good back swing on Little B.

Brandon hitting a ball up the fairway as his brother watches on.

Me showing the boys how it is done properly!

Joshua getting to grips with his wood, he hit some great drives today.

Joshua tonks another wood shot.

Brandon for once with reasonable feet position, good back swing and his eyes on the ball.

Joshua and Brandon on a putting green as Holly sleeps in her buggy in the background.

Joshua hits another good drive.

Brandon resting the wood across his shoulders before winding down to try and hit the ball.

Like father like son, Joshua copying me as he keeps his tee tucked in behind his ear.

Brandon takes his pitch wedge for a shot at the green,

Joshua lines up a putt. If only he could control the power of his putter!

All three of us close in on the hole.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting out and playing 9 holes of golf with the boys today. I only hope this is the seed for some great rounds of golf in the future as I really look forward to the day when the 3 of us can head out for 4-5 hours on a Sunday morning and play a round of golf. I am very competitive, but winning is irrelevant as long as all of us are out there and having fun. So I now need to keep them regularly playing a pitch and putt and then the next step up will be a par 3 sometime in the future.

I don't think you will have to worry about whether or not the boys will want to play proper games of golf with you as they both seem so keen xxx
