Newquay Day 8 - Adrenaline Quarry

Day 8 in Newquay was probably one of my favourite. After the disappointment of not being able to do the zip wire at Eden Project we seeked our Adrenaline Quarry. Adrenaline Quarry features a 495m zip wire that starts 50m high and runs right over the water filled quarry. Unlike Eden Project there is much more of a decline and therefore they are not as sensitive to winds and minimum weights. They need a minimum of 26kg's weight to go down the zip wire, but f you are not 26kg's then they add water filled barrels as extra ballast. This meant that even Holly could ride the zip wire on her own. She had to have a chest harness as well as a climbing harness, but she went down the zip wire and pretty much chuckled all the way. When she hit the bottom her first words were "again, again". We couldn't believe how fearless Holly was but I think it was helped by the fact they had two zip wires running in parallel so one of us went down with her side by side.

The zip wire experience wasn't cheap at £50 for the 5 of us to go down once and of course all three kiddies wanted a second go. A repeat slide was £7 each and since we had travelled all that way it seemed silly to not let them have a second go. So another £21 and the kids were all at it again.

After our adrenaline experience we enjoyed a beautiful picnic area at the bottom of the quarry with a sectioned off area for swimming. The water was fresh, cool, non tidal, non salty and just perfect for a lazy afternoon. So we set-up a picnic and enjoyed a nice dip in the water for the afternoon. They had a small beach area to enter the rocky quarry and had even anchored a pontoon in the water so that you could swim out to deeper water, climb up and then jump off. This was definitely a day to remember.

Waking up early for a toilet break I couldn't help notice how cool our tent looks when all lit up of a night time.

Will we all still be smiling at the bottom of adrenaline quarry???

The kiddies getting all excited as they wait for their turn down the zip wire.

The zip wires at adrenaline quarry and a stunning view. Its so long you can hardly see the landing point at the opposite side of the quarry.

Holly all strapped in to her two harnessess and ready to go.

I went first and tried taking a few pictures on the way down and then some pictures of the other 4 as they came landed the other side.

I had spun around on the descent and got a picture looking back up at the start tower.

One of my better selfies as I speed down the zip wire.

Nearly at the bottom.

Joshua and Brandon coming in for their landing.

They made it alive and were still smiling.

Next Holly and Tina both came across, also with grins from ear to ear.

Unclipping Holly and taking her off of her ballast barrel.

Holly goes up for a second time and fearlessly looks down the quarry.

Brandon off on his second attempt. Still needed a weighted barrel as he was only about 24kg.

Holly speeds off down the zip wire chasing Brandon.

Down they go vanishing into the distance.

Joshua launches himself for his second go down the zip wire.

Family picnic at the bottom of the quarry.

Joshua and Brandon were first to brave the fresh, cold water of the quarry.

Being good swimmers they both headed out to deeper water to climb on the pontoon.

Joshua makes it first.

Then Brandon makes it out there.

Brandon practicing a dive into the water.

Joshua holding his nose and going for a dive bomb into the water.

Once back at the site it was the usual wash, dinner arcades and bowling with the two boys trying to beat their best scores.

Joshua is really starting to get some power with his bowling.

Brandon was finding the mini bowling hard as he is used to having the side rails up.
