Lakeside Junior Kart Racing

As the Christmas holiday draws to an end we are trying to squeeze in as much as possible (or at least as much as the weather will allow). So today during a rare break in the rain showers we decided to take the boys over to Lakeside Karting for their first Junior Karting Experience. The Karting Arena was very quiet and as such the boys had the whole track to themselves which was fortunate really as there was definitely some dirty racing and some bumping going on. Although these are only electric karts it is a great introduction to the little ones to get them into karting. The next stage is to get them both through a 3 part licence to drive a low powered petrol kart, then at 8 years of age they can be let loose on the adult size karts (which means I can race them!!!).

Joshua and Brandon get ready to race with their race helmets.

And then they square off at the start line ready for their 15 min race.

Joshua took and early lead and frustrated Brandon for about 10 laps or so as he couldn't find a way past.

Brandon continued to push hard and closed the gap.

And then eventually he got close enough before the long straight to make his move.

Once Brandon had overtaken Joshua there was no looking back and he opened up a 1/2 lap lead.

Brandon storms off for the victory and even glances over his shoulder to keep an eye on his big brother.

Brandon concentrating hard on hitting that apex.

Joshua more concerned with leaning over the kart than positioning it to hit the apex.
The two of them had a really good time racing and as I said earlier it got a bit dirty at one point as Joshua was continuously closing the door on Brandon and subsequently Brandon would keep ramming him. This could become a fairly regular treat for the boys as its not too expensive and really good fun (just wish I could join in!). Whilst we were there the boys also enjoyed just watching some of the racing on the main track with the full size petrol karts.

Brandon takes the pole position with Joshua a distant second.

Joshua wanted to also experience the top of the podium even though he lost to his little Bro!
After the karting we headed over to Lakeside to look in a few of the shops. In the entrance to Kiddicare was this rather fantastic Lego racing car. Just how cool would it be to build one of these and have it in the back garden.

Brandon fits perfectly in the Lego race car.

Joshua takes to the wheel.

Not sure this was meant to be a two seater.
Amazing detail even down to the Lego engine in the back.
The car is well built if it can take Joshua sitting on the rear spoiler.

I definitely think you are raising 3 petrol heads!!! What with Holly and her Fab1 and door bouncer and then the boys, especially Brandon. Think I might start calling Brandon 'Vettel' from now on! Looks like a lot of fun was had by all. The lego racing car is really cool too xxx
