Brandon Playing in a Freindly Against Essex Royals

No league game for Joshua or my Under 7's team this week, however Brandon had his 3rd friendly game at home against Essex Royals. It was really nice to get up on a Sunday without the pressure of having to prepare for football training or to have to get the team ready for a match. Instead I was looking forward to simply going along and watching Brandon play football for the first time. Unfortunately my plans were soon changed as when we arrived I started helping set-up the pitch and then took on a bit of groundsmen work to fork some muddy areas of the pitch and spread some sand on flooded areas. After all that work I then got roped into referring their game despite really not wanting too. Its not that I don't want to get involved in Brandon's football, its just that I hate referring plus I really wanted to just watch him play.

Anyway despite my dodgy referring whilst running around the pitch in wellington boots, the FG Under 6's played very, very will winning with a comfortable 10-3 scoreline. Brandon predominantly plays as a central defender and did a great job today making a couple of really good challenges.

More traditional team photo (maybe we should have done it before the match when they weren't all caked in mud).
Brandon and Zac forming the back defencive line.
Brandon in action.
Brandon holding good space as the other 3 on his team bunch up around the ball (who's the dodgy welly wearing ref??)
I remember this a year ago with our U7 team - all of them with the heads down chasing the ball together without any spacial awareness.
RJ (who scored 6 goals) working on an attack with Brandon.
Brandon in his number 15 shirt trying to get around a defender to get a shot at goal.
Brandon in space and making a run on goal.

Great preparation game for Brandon and the Under 6's to start getting them ready for the forthcoming Mini Soccer League this September. They have a lot of work to do, but they have a good foundation with this team and a couple of really talented kids.
