Year of the Goat

The two boys have learnt all about China at school last year were surprisingly very enthusiastic about today being the Chinese New Year. Last night they spent the evening making loads of Chinese lanterns which they then got me to hang up in the kitchen as decorations. They used our Chinese cushions from the living room to copy some of the Chinese characters and then added pictures of dragons along with the wording "Year of the Goat". Joshua even made a lantern for his little sister so that everyone had their own one and she wasn't left out.
Once I got home from work I took the boys swimming and then we all settled down at the table for a Chinese meal. Joshua and Brandon even had a go at trying to use chop sticks for the first time. They managed to spear the chicken with a chop stick, but that was about it.
All of Joshua and Brandon's Chinese lanterns decorating our kitchen.

Brandon's masterpiece, Auntie Lisa helped him with the dragon.
Joshua's effort. Love the detail in the border pattern and the Chinese characters.

Joshua, Brandon and Holly settle down for a nice Chinese dinner.
Loads of food to go around, but how will the boys get on with those chop sticks?
