Joshua's Birthday Driving Experience @ Brands Hatch

This year Joshua did not want a party or karting for his birthday (as with previous years) so instead we thought it would be good to buy him a driving experience as he is desperate to start driving and counting down the 4 years until his 17th. Due to Covid lockdown this weekend was the first chance we managed to get him booked in and luckily the weather held off for us, albeit very cold.

This was Joshua's first experience driving a manual transmission as he took a mini out on a section of the Brands Hatch track for about 45 mins where he had to do various maneuvers including parking, 3 point turn, in and out of cones, pull aways etc.

I'm not saying it because he is my son, but out of the 5 kids on the track with him (some of which were older) he was by far the best. He surprised me with how good his clutch control and handling was and he managed the 3 point tun and the cones with ease. Some of the other kids were stalling multiple times, going off the track on to the grass, knocking cones over and so on. So well done Josh. This experience has really lit a fire in his belly to pass his driving test at the earliest opportunity.

Joshua getting in to his Young Drivers Mini experience at Brands Hatch.

The instructor drove him up to the track section, then it was to be his turn at the wheel.

Joshua managed the cone parking easy and only stalled once when pulling off.

They were limited to 40mph on the straight parts of the track and Joshua said he really wanted to go faster.

Off he goes in to the distance.

He managed the in and out of the cones with ease (especially compared to some of the kids).

Just a shame in all the pictures he had to wear a face mask.

Around the last cone and on to his 3 point turn.

Getting some speed down the hill and up the straight.

Great experience for Joshua and a nice certificate to commemorate his experience.
