Day 3 Wales Ty Mawr - Welsh Mountain Zoo

Day 3 and we had planned to take the train up to the tp of Snowdon. However there was two problems with this plan. Firstly due to the Jubilee weekend it was fully booked and secondly, due to Covid they didn't get all the track maintenance done in 2021 and as a result in 2022 they are only allowing you 3/4's of the way up whilst the catch up on the repairs.

So our plan B for the day was to visit the Welsh Mountain Zoo and what a beautiful day it turned out to be with glorious sunshine. The name kind of gives it away with what to expect and thus the zoo certainly put Colchester to shame with its undulating and very hilly terrain.

Upon arrival it looked like one of those dingy little zoo's that you often see. However the zoo was actually pretty good with some very impressive enclosures and animals. Clearly a lot of investment lately as a lot of it looks fairly new (or certainly newly refurbished).

First we saw the sea lions.

I think living in North Wales means they are not used to the sunshine and weren't very mobile.

Next was flamingo's.

One side of the mountain was open terrain for donkeys, deer's etc.

There worse places for this deer to be!

A little wallaby.

We timed it perfect and was the first ones through the walk-thru lemur enclosure.

They were very lively despite as they were literally just let out of their night house.

They climbed the trees and on to the platform where we were standing.

This one was braving climbing up to see us.

And then scurried along the hand rail.

Getting ready to jump.

The penguin enclosure was really cool with great view above and below.

Initially we were confused why all the penguins were starting to congregate in this corner.

Spectacular views from the zoo - all the way out to the coast.

After a lot of hunting around we found the leopard who was fast asleep.

Some extreme close ups of the penguins.

And more... this one was virtually kissing the camera lens.

So why were the penguins congregating???

Because each day they section of an area of display grass and let them out for a walk outside of their enclosure.

As a reward they were fed fish as they walked past the crowd (assuming the seagulls didn't swoop down and snatch them!).

A bit from the gorilla enclosure.

Sitting down for some grub.

Holly at the gorilla enclosure.

Hunting around for some food.

As with the leopard, the tigers were fast asleep.

One of my favourites, the big old alligator. Size of his belly!

As always the meerkats provided loads of entertainment.

Nice close up picture.

More meerkats.

And more.

This monkey enjoyed showing off on the cage right in front of ut.
