One Door Closes, Two Doors Open

Today was a pretty significant milestone for Joshua as the door closes on his time at pre-school. He absolutely loves the Tops Foundation and will miss it dearly. Fortunately though he is extremely excited about starting primary school in 6 or 7 weeks time. So as we close the door on one chapter in his schooling life, another one is about to open. Best we start looking at buying his school uniform before it is too late!. So why have I titled this blog as "Two Doors Open", well quite simply it is because the exciting news for Brandon is that come September he will now start at the Tops Foundation Pre-School. Lets hope he enjoys his time there just as much as his older brother.

Staying on the subject of the boys education, both Brandon and Joshua have recently grasped the concept of rhyming words. They are frequently coming out with comments like "grass rhymes with glass" and they are doing it spontaneously without any encouragement or help. I find it amazing that they have made that link between the common sounds of rhyming words. Not sure if this is something they have learnt at school or not because we did not teach them.

Finally for today I would like to write about a couple of new "firsts" that have occurred recently. Firstly, Brandon has had his "first" lot of homework from nursery. He was so jealous of Joshua having homework and always asked if he could do some. So we asked the nursery and they were happy to oblige and have subsequently provided him with his very own homework folder.

The second "first" which I want to write about is Joshua's bedtime routine. I have read a story or two to the boys every single night since the day they were born. However earlier this week Joshua told us that he wanted to put himself to bed on his own. On one occasion he took a couple of books to read himself and then went to sleep, on another occasion he listened to "The Cat In The Hat" story CD ad fell asleep listening to it. It just goes to show how quickly they grow up and its a bit of a sad occasion for me as I enjoy that little bit of quality time reading them bedtime stories.
