Player of the week - Little B

Little B had a great weekend of football and on Saturday received the trophy for player of the week. I am really impressed by the little guy as he is by far the smallest and youngest one in the club but he still gets stuck in there (despite the cold, wet and mud!). The other good news is that without any influence from me or Tina he has made a decision that he now wants to stop going to Little Kickers on a Sunday as he is doing so well at Forest Glade on a Saturday. This is good for two reasons, 1) It means I don’t have to spend both days every weekend chauffeuring around football clubs and 2) I can save some money as Little Kickers is not cheap. So my objective now is to try and keep him interested in Little Kickers to use up his current 12 week course (which I have paid in advance) and to make sure he carries on enjoying Forest Glade through the yucky winter months.

Last week Brandon also learnt lots of Xmas songs in preparation for his school show (which unfortunately we will miss due to being in Lapland). It is so adorable seeing him sing “We wish you a merry Christmas” or “Jingle bells” that I had to get the video camera out and record it. So we used the new conservatory benches as a stage and let Brandon perform in front of the camera. That will be a video clip to cherish in years to come.

Final update for today’s blog is that Joshua has received his first school reading book with words in it for his homework. Up until now Joshua has only been given picture books to tell your own story and to make the sounds. His first word book is obviously very basic with minimal single syllable words, but I had great fun working with him last night sounding out the letters and hearing him reading the words. It is encouraging that his teachers think he is ready to starting proper reading books now instead of picture books. After just two nights he can read the whole book himself. What an achievement.

One negative for Joshua – his first pair of school shoes have holes in!!! So they lasted just over one half a term. Still at least he hasn’t put holes in his school trousers (yet!).
