Football Family

It appears that the King family are rapidly turning into a football family. As everyone know I am now a FA Level 1 coach and Manage/Coach the Forest Glade Under 7 Tigers team for which Joshua plays. Tina has now got involved in Brandon's Under 6's team and has taken on responsibility for organising the friendly matches on behalf of their coach/manager (Glenn). I managed to get a contact from my FA course for Leigh Rockets Under 6's and subsequently started the ball rolling to get Brandon's first friendly game arranged for this weekend just gone.

So our weekend involved football training all Saturday morning and then a football party all afternoon for one of Joshua's team mates called Ethan. Then Sunday Joshua had his 4th league match with a 9.30 kick-off against Wickford Town, then at 11:15 Brandon had his first ever friendly game against the Leigh Rockets. Joshua's game went quite well as they won it 5-2 and remain undefeated in the league. I wasn't happy with the team performance as they made it much harder than it should of been, plus they kept passing the ball across their own goal. I was really worried when we went 0-1 down at home in about the first 15 seconds of the game!!!

I ended up refereeing Brandon's match and I have to say the Under 6's did very well for the first game, much better than I expected. It was such a big day for the boys and their parents to see them playing in their first ever friendly, but the weather was against us and they boys were effectively playing in a monsoon!!! I came close to calling the game off in the 2nd half but both coaches seemed happy to carry on despite all the kids looking like cold, drowned rats. Auntie Nicky braved the extreme weather to watch little Brandon in his first game and he was really pleased to see her there (sorry for the soaking Nicky). Anyway Brandon's team ended up winning 7-5 which was good. Brandon had a few touches of the ball and whilst he seemed to run around and call for the ball a lot, he seemed hesitant to get involved especially when contact was a likely outcome. On one occasion he took a ball to the mid section and went down crying and was subsequently substituted until he had recovered.

The Forest Glade Under 6's prior to their first ever friendly match and before the heavens opened up. Coach Glenn second from left in the back row. Brandon bottom right in the front row. Don't they all look great in their new kit.

A rare occasion where Brandon goes in for a tackle.

Brandon making a run into space and calling for the ball.

Lots of blue shirts back defending as Leigh Rockets attack.
The final football update is that today we took Joshua into Lakeside to visit the Westham shop as he wanted to buy a Westham kit with his birthday money. Unfortunately they were completely sold out of his size of both the home and away kit. So we measure him up and I told him we would order it on-line as soon as we got home. However as we walked around the shop he then saw the Westham training kit and decided he wanted that instead. I kept checking with him to make sure it was exactly what he wanted as it was not cheap. In fact with his name and number printed on the back the total bill was circa £80!!!!! But he is really happy with it and put it on as soon as he got home. To be honest the colour is probably better from a washing perspective than the colours of the home/away kits!

Number 9 as per his FG shirt and the "King" name, how cool.
Joshua also bought a few other Westham items including a highlighter pen, a door sign and a Westham hat and scarf. So roll on Saturdays training session so that he can show off his new kit.
