Upminster Superworm Trail

As it is the school summer holidays I am trying to take at least one a week off to take the kids out and do something nice as a family. On Friday we went to Thames Chase Forest Centre so that the kiddies could go on the Superworm Trail. The woodland around the area is just beautiful especially when you consider you are right on top of the M25. The actual Superworm trail is well sign posted and really quite fun for the kids. I guess it is about a mile or so in length and at each trail point there is some kind of climbing or activity for the kids to enjoy. Plus plenty of picnic benches and grass areas to just chill out or have a nice picnic.

We took Holly's trike rather than the usual buggy, but the little girl did absolute fantastic and actually walked most of the way around. Joshua took his electric scooter and Brandon took his Flicker scooter.

The start of the Superworm trail and a lovely wooden carved owl.

My 3 kiddlewinks all ready to embark upon the Superworm trail.

I guess we follow the arrows and go this way.

We made it to the start. Can we now find the finish?

Me and the 3 kids at the Natural Play Trail arch.

Is that Supwerworm or a snake carved into the arch.

The 3 little ones all enjoying climbing on the wooden tunnels.

Holly braving the dark tunnels on her own.

Where is she?

She must have been one of the only kids small enough to stand up in the tunnel.

Me, Holly and Brandon.

Holly has found clue number 2 on the Superworm Trail.

Brandon climbing in the ant tower.

This is easy for Josh after last weeks Beaver wall climbing.

Joshua and Holly in the ant tower.

Clue 3 and its Superworm skipping, rather appropriate as Joshua has a skipping task for his Beavers club.

Joshua and Brandon at the top of ant tower.

Proper boys fearlessly climbing to the summit.

Brandon conquers the tower and just needs a flag to put in the top.

Next we found the wigwam's and the boys were determined to try and light a camp fire! Beavers has a lot to answer for.

Holly got bored waiting for the boys to try and get a fire going so heads off for a walk to another wigwam.

Holly did a lot of walking but every now and then she needed a halping hand.

Brandon finds another part of the superwork trail, the treasure!

The woodland is beautiful and you wouldn't believe you are right on top of the M25 once you are inside the trail.

Brandon used his flicker scooter to get around the trail.

At the end of the trail is this rather impressive Superworm castle for the kids to playin and climb.

Outside the castle is a kind of log ladder which the kids can try and walk across without going on the grass.

We made it to the end and finished the Superworm trail.

Holly learning how to play naughts and crosses in the play area after we had finished the trail.

The others all got tired and went back to the car. But me nd Brandon went further exploring and found Discovery Den,

Learning about animals and looking out for wildlife from inside Discovery Den.

Brandon showing good balance.

His little legs are growing. A year ago he would not be stepping across these stumps.

We had a really lovely day out on the Superworm trail and the kids were all pretty exhausted at the end of the day. We enjoyed a nice picnic lunch and then headed home so that the boys could get ready for karate and I could crack on with decorating Joshua's bedroom. More to follow on this later.
