Joshua's Syrian Refugee Hamster

For ages and ages Joshua has been nagging us that he wants a hamster. We considered buying him one for his birthday but he ended up getting too many presents so we couldn't. Anyway he ended up getting a reasonable amount of money for his birthday and decided to buy a Syrian hamster for himself (which I have appropriately named our refugee). So a trip over to see cousin Amy in "Pets at Home" at the weekend and Joshua has acquired himself a 12 week old refugee. Its a little boy hamster with a nice brown coat and has been named Peekachoo.

So far we have not been successful in handling the little fellow as he is a bit feisty. But we are working with him everyday so that he slowly gets used to us. The first couple of nights Joshua wanted to keep him in his bedroom, but this soon changed when he realised just how noisy and active Peekachoo is of an evening / nighttime with his hamster wheel.

Nearly done and the cage is looking good.

The three kiddies start breaking up the saw dust for the bottom of the cage.

Peekachoo's travel box is opened and he is introduced to his new home for the first time.

And off he goes exploring his new cage.

When he is not in his hamster wheel, Peekachoo can be found hiding or rolling around in his tunnel.
