Zante Day 9 - Quad Bikes

By the second week of our holiday I was starting to get concerned that Brandon was losing weight through lack of eating, and Joshua was putting on weight. Brandon was being so stubborn and only really eating food that he recognised and that tasted exactly the same as at home. This meant he was predominantly living on chips, chicken and chocolate (the three "ch"'s). This diet was supplemented by many bananas (but then we all know he is a little monkey), ice cream, peppers and in the morning peaches.

At times it seemed unfair as Joshua and Brandon were being treated differently. With Joshua we wanted him to enjoy the Independence and try as much food as possible, but we were also aware he was overeating and trying to control him to a certain extent. Brandon however was under eating and therefore if he asked for an extra piece of cake or another scoop of ice cream the answer was always yes. But then Joshua would ask if he could also have more and the answer would be no. Fortunately by the second week I think Joshua had started to learn himself that he was overeating and was learning to stop eating when he was full.

A rare moment of Brandon eating two puddings, a chocolate cake and a custard tart.

He is all skin and bones.

In the second week Joshua and Brandon voluntarily wanted to take a look at the kids club. Now normally I am dead against putting the boys in holiday clubs as part of taking them away it to spend quality family time together and not to off load them onto someone else. However the kids club here was absolutely outstanding and was themed on Madagascar. So both boys decided to try the kids club and went for a 3hour hour session in the afternoon giving Tina time to get some R and R and leaving me at a loose. end. So with the kids off hand and Tina asleep in the hotel I had two options. Option A : All inclusive bar with the football showing, or Option B : Don the running shoes for 7.5 miles up and down a mountain in 33 degree heat surrounded by olive trees and overlooking the coastline. Of course I made the most of the "me time" and chose Option B and it was absolutely stunning (albeit very, very hot). Over the course of the second week I managed to get 3 runs up and down the mountain whilst the boys enjoyed the kids club.

In the hotel pool the boys had "acquired" a spiderman lilo. We believe it was left behind by a holiday maker that had flown home and didn't want to take it back with them. Regardless of where it came from, no one seemed to come shouting for it so the boys just claimed it as theirs for the rest of the holiday. This was the first time either of them had used a lilo and they thoroughly enjoyed diving onto it and just lounging around in the pool.

Joshua leaping from the pool side onto the lilo.

Perfect landing.

Brandon could actually get some good speed going by kicking his little legs behind him.

Full steam ahead.

In the evening we took a pleasant walk into town and stumbled across a kids quad bike track which both the boys were dead keen to tryout. The island of Zante is very mountainous and there are quad bikes and dune buggies all over the place. Clearly they are not old enough to go out on full size quad bikes, so this was the next best thing for them. Not bad either at Eur 3 for 15 to 20 mins of driving.

Brandon really looked the part driving around on a quad bike.

Joshua initially chose a jeep rather than a quad bike, but the boys kept changing around anyway.

Joshua's silly photo grin which he seems to have adopted.

Cheeky Brandon's photo grin.

Race on as the boys tear around the track.

And it is neck a neck as they come into the final lap.

Joshua concentrating hard.

One happy boy - after all he is a petrol head.

The boys swap vehicles around (again!).
