Holly's Reading Homework

Now that Holly is settling in to her Foundation Year she has started to bring home reading books, however at her age she cannot read so they are the Biff and Chip picture story books. I had completely forgotten all about these picture books from when the two boys had them, it's made me realise just how much they have progressed with their reading. Me and Holly look at her picture books every night as her bedtime story and she has got quite good at making up a story and describing what she can see on each page.

Holly also now has an old TV/DVD in her bedroom and once she has finished her story we let her have a children's DVD on for a 30 min timer and then she goes to sleep. The school days a really, really exhausting her though and 9 times out of 10 she is fast asleep before the DVD timer ends, especially come Thursday and Friday. Even on the odd night when she doesn't nod off, she seems to have learnt that once the time goes off it is time to sleep.

A proud Holly with her TV/DVD combi which she now has in her bedroom.

Something else funny with Holly is that despite only being at school for about 4 weeks, she appears to have learnt swears words. I was in the car with her earlier this week innocently listening to some Green Day when in between songs the lead singer used the word "fucking". Holly looked at me and said "he used a bad word", then she said, "fuck is a swear!". It was one of those moments when I didn't know whether to laugh or tell her off for swearing. Instead I chose to just explain it is a really naughty word and she shouldn't repeat it again.
