Joshua's Secondary School Application

With the end of October deadline rapidly approaching we have finally made a choices for Joshua's secondary school. We actually started looking last year and then re-visited the schools again this year plus a few extra ones for comparison. We are very fortunate in Wickford to have 2 good secondary schools which are both likely to be over subscribed and have a waiting list. On the plus side the 2 schools have more spaces available than what their are children in within the catchment area, so we should be guaranteed at least our first or second choice.

From last years visits me and Tina both preferred Bromfords, it just seemed much cleaner, more organised, more individual and the head teacher is really passionate with his vision and drive. Historically the school had a bad Ofsted report and worse GSCE results, but that is all in the past and they are probably tending towards outstanding now and for the first time in many years they will be oversubscribed for Year 7's.

With all that being said, Joshua has always preferred Beauchamps and with their better Ofsted report and higher GSCE grades it has been hard to find a compelling argument to not send him there. The two schools are pretty much the same distance travel wise and Joshua has friends going to both schools. Anyway we visited Beauchamps twice more this year to see if there was any reason not to send Joshua there and we couldn't find anything. In fact after this years visits I am probably swaying towards Beauchamps over Bromfords myself.

So the decision has jointly been made with Joshua and we have gone Beauchamps 1st choice, Bromfords 2nd choice and Sweyne in Rayleigh for 3rd choice. Not its the long wait until the end of March to see if Joshua was fortunate enough to get his first pick.
