Joshua's Foundation Year Graduation

Today I had the great pleasure of attending Joshua's foundation year graduation. It seems odd to me that the children now graduate from nursery and foundation year given that back in my day I did not even have a graduation ceremony from high school. The format of the event was like an assembly where each of the kids got to hold the microphone and tell the audience about something they liked in their foundation year. In between this they performed a few of their songs from previous other assemblies / plays such as their Easter and Xmas ones. The teachers had also compiled a rather nice musical photo montage of both the pink and blue class. To end the event the children each got to wear a mortar board and each take it in turns to be awarded their certificate and then pose for some photo's.

The children line up for the start of the assembly / graduation.

Joshua is all smiles as he wears his mortar board and poses with his certificate/

The children all come out at the end to receive a final round of applause from the proud Mum's and Dad's.

So under a week to go and Joshua starts his school holidays. It seems like only yesterday I was taking pictures of him wearing his uniform for the first time.

Other updates for this week are that I have started on one of this years objectives which is to get Brandon riding his bike without stabilisers. So far this is not going great and is definitely going to be harder work than with Joshua. Brandon just seems to lack confidence. So far he has managed a 9 second unaided cycle but I am going to continue to do a little bit each day this week in hope of building his confidence. One thing that doesn't help is that because he is smaller than Joshua he is still using the little 10" Lightning McQueen bike. The problem with this bike is that it is a fixie and therefore he cannot free wheel and also has the fear of the pedals whipping around and hitting his leg. So it is catch 22 really because he needs a new bike that can freewheel, but I have told him he can't have a new bike until he learns to ride without stabilisers.
