Spain - Costa Dorada Day 10

Day 10 and as promised it is a bit of a picture fest from the stunning Theme Park, PortAventura which is the Spanish equivalent of a Disney Park. I managed to filter the pictures down to some 40+ for this blog update which was no mean feat! We timed our visit to perfection as they had just blinged the Theme Park up ready for Halloween and boy did they do a great job.

Purple and orange everywhere, with endless amounts of pumpkins and spiders.

This spider was over the entrance passage and was about 10ft in diameter.

Notice all the spiders attached to the buildings and all the black crows on the room. This was on absolutely every building in the park and must have cost a fortune and took forever to put up. Puts our Bonoween decs to shame.

Once you get into the park you are greeted with a spectacular fountain/music display on the lake.

We then found a statue of Woody the woodpecker......

Which was closely followed by the real thing, having a stroll around the park.

This could become our Halloween pic of the year. Me and the boys posing in a slightly over sized pumpkin!

Of all the amazing rides in the Theme Park, the boys were quite happy just playing in this little boat. We had to virtually drag them kicking and screaming out of here to go to Sesame Street World.

We finally got to Sesame Street World and Joshua promptly jumped on an overhead monorail type ride based on aeroplanes. This gave a great view of Sesame Street World. Unfortunately Brandon was not tall enough. Sesame Street world was a bit weird in that respect as Brandon could only go on about 5 or so rides here, and Josh had to be accompanied by an adult on nearly all of the ones he was allowed on. I would have thought for the kids area of the Theme Park there would have been a lot more solo rides suitable for both boys.

You can see the mono rail plane flying high over the entrance to Sesame Street.

This was the view from the plane.

Even Sesame Street was blinged out for Halloween. Check out the pumpkin scarecrow.

One of the first rides Brandon got to go on was to drive me and Josh around Sesame Street in a tractor to meet all the characters. He went on this quite a few times over the course of two days.

This tree is like the centre piece to Sesame Street. To give you an idea of just how big it is - can you see me on the boys anywhere?

Zoom in and there we are.

Another ride. This was like a coach which circled around up in the air. You can see me and the boys in the back row.

Joshua got to experience his first real roller coaster in Sesame Street. It might have been a children's ride but don't be fooled. This was a proper thrill seeking coaster.

As you can see you climb high up about the trees.

And then down you come with a smile on your face.

They even had a Sesame Street show which we watched whilst having lunch. Didn't understand much of it as it was all in Spanish.

Another ride on the planes.

Here was a good ride for the kids based on the Chuppa Chups lollies. The lollies were hot air balloons which went around and up in the air.

After lunch we jumped on an old steam train and headed around to the Wild West. Probably my favourite area of the theme park and certainly the part which had the most Halloween bling. They even had actresses walking around rein acting scenes from Exorcist and things like this. Clearly we had to be a little selective on what the boys did and did not see!

Enjoying our train ride.

And then we arrive in the Wild West.

Whats the saying, when in Rome? So time to ditch the car and saddle up the horse and carriage.

I have never seen toddler size bumper cars before. What a great idea. Josh and Brandon got to head off and cause havoc all on their own (you can see them in the middle of this pile up wearing the two red hats).

Probably one of Brandon's favourite rides was this little canoe ride. At first he shared a boat with his brother but then he built up the confidence to go it alone.

As you can see Brandon really wasn't enjoying himself!

Nearly all the different regions within the Theme Park have play areas for kids. But China wins for the best, hands down. Check out this huge dragon. The kids climb up stairs along the spine of the dragon and have various slides along route to descend down.

If the kids manage to make it all the way along the spine without being tempted by the slides, then they are treated to a huge slide the comes out of the dragons mouth.

Security in the park is pretty strict. Check out this army patrol unit.

More Halloween decs.

Both boys on a merry go round.

Have you ever seen a pumpkin type Christmas tree! And check out how high it is souring way above the carousel.

The boys playing on a haunted train.

Despite how strict they were on ride height in Sesame Street, it was surprising just how many of the adult rides both boys could go on. Some far scarier than anything in Sesame Street. For example Joshua was allowed on the log flume and absolutely loved it (especially the getting wet part). I think he went on this about 5 or 6 times in total.

Fearless Joshua not afraid to scale any heights for a photo opportunity.

Brandon is not so happy to climb so high, but my little pumpkin will happily pose with lots of other pumpkins.

This blog only captures a very small part of an amazing day out in PortAventura. Fortunately we had a two day ticket so there will be some more pictures for Day 11. But for now it is time to set sail back for the hotel.

Here is the skipper for our ship home.
