Sunday Snowday Fun

Today we woke up to the pleasant surprise that it was snowing outside and the even better news was that due to the adverse weather conditions Brandon's football match had been cancelled. The kids were super excited to get out and play in the snow so we dug out the thermals, thick socks and some winter clothes then scoffed down a quick breakfast as fast as we could.

Tina hates the snow so me and the kiddies went out for about 2 hours playing with the sledges, having snowball fights and building snowmen whilst she sat at home in the warmth. Over the Wick Park we built a really big snowman which started a bit of a trend and soon there was 5 or 6 popping up. Ours was by far the most impressive and as we left everyone else was coming up and taking selfies with our snowman (that Holly named Gandhi!).

The sledges haven't seen the light of day for about 3 years and I seem to recall that this might actually only be the second time Holly has seen snow. After a good couple of hours in the snow we headed home to warm up with a nice hot drink and some lunch, then headed back out for another hour or so in the afternoon. In the afternoon we made a smaller snowman in the front garden and also tried building an igloo before running out of snow.

I also thought it would be quite amusing for the kids to make free slushies using fresh powdery snow in a plastic cup and then adding some flavourings. I am not sure whether this is classed as good or bad parenting, Tina didn't seem impressed but the kids all loved it. I did advise them that there is one rule, "Don't touch any yellow snow!".

Holly couldn't wait to get out in the snow and absolutely loved it.

Brandon looking the part in all his winter gear and some old ski trousers of Joshua's that just about fit him.

By some miracle I found the sledges tucked right at the back of the garage. These haven't seen the light of day for some 3 years or so.

Princess Holly loved whizzing around on the sledges.

We only had 2 sledges so I pulled Brandon along and Joshua helped by pulling his sister.

More snow angels in the fresh snow over Wick Park.

And more snow angels.

The Canadian geese obviously found the lake too cold and ventured across the snowy field.

Trust Joshua to figure out that you can eat snow. Mind you this inspired us for homemade slushies.

Making progress with Gandhi the snowman.

Joshua using his muscles to try and push this monster snowball.

Brandon was a beaten man as this one got too big for him to shift.

Gandhi had a nice happy face, but the nose looked dodgy so we later changed it for a stick nose.

Joshua and Brandon managed to find some good stick arms and then we made a dodgy looking hat for Gandhi.

And here is our finished masterpiece complete with cigar and stick feet.

Brandon made this snowman all on his own, then dressed it in his hat and my scarf.

By now the geese had migrated back on to the lake making a stunning photo opportunity.

Snowy scenery just looks so fresh, clean, bright and just absolutely beautiful.

Back at home we tried building an igloo with snow building blocks but ran out of snow and light.

Holly still seemed to enjoy playing in our partial igloo.
