This weekend saw the end of our pre-season football tournaments in preparation for the 2015/16 league. I had both the U8 and U7 teams participating in the Trinity tournament in Southend and whilst it was a very long, and at times stressful day, we had a fantastic tournament with some great results. I certainly had my work cut out for me with running two teams. Basically we arrived at 8:30am ready for 9am kick-off with the U8's. They finished around lunchtime just in time for the U7's to arrive at 1:30pm for a 2pm kick-off. We eventually left the ground at 6pm!!!
The U8's won 3 games and lost 1. As per last weeks tournament they played some very good football and the loss was against a very good team who beat us in the league last year. Joshua was again showing good improvement and confidence at Trinity and scored 2 goals. He would have had a 3rd from a free kick if it wasn't for one of the defenders knocking it away with his hand. He subsequently earned a penalty which was kicked straight at the keeper.
The U7's had 5 games, but a bit shorter, 5 min each way. The boys lost 3 and won 2 scoring 4 goals throughout the day. So this was a big improvement over the previous week where they lost all games and didn't score a goal. 2 of the losses were very close games and you got the feeling we could easily beat those teams on another day. The other loss was against a very good team and they were the only ones who really played us off the pitch with a 7-1 loss. Brandon was again showing lots of confidence and speed making some fantastic runs. He also scored one of the goals for the team which was great to see.
So pre-season over with now. Brandon's first league match should start Sept 20th and Joshua's on Sept 27th. That's my weekends gone from now until Christmas!!!

No subs available for my U7's today so these little troopers played every minute in 5 matches with no rest. 2 wins and 4 goals scored showing great improvement. Shame we had 2 kids drop out sick on the morning of the tournament. |
